Occasionally, your system may pop up an error telling you how to troubleshoot Walbro carburetors. This error can be caused by a variety of reasons.
- Reduced engine power. One of the first symptoms often associated with a faulty or defective carburetor is a decrease in engine performance.
Reset Walbro Carburetor To Default Settings
When troubleshooting Walbro carburetors, use the default settings first. To do this, fully tighten the two screws (a little torque, just enough) and then pull them half a turn. At this point, the engine should start and run, although it may not function properly. If you can't start from now, try turning the screws a quarter turn back and forth until something happens. Note that turning the screws counterclockwise makes the mixture richer (more fuel in the air), and turning clockwise the mixture tiltsdripping (more air into fuel). An engine that is too rich will not completely burn off excess fuel, which will lead to increased fouling of the spark plugs and more smoke in the exhaust fumes, while an engine that is too lean will run much hotter. In both cases, most of the energy is not generated. It is always best to use the rich part with any engine, twice as much with a two-stroke engine, as lean fuel also means poor lubrication.
To get this optimum lightly greasy mixture, you need to turn the speed control screw counterclockwise until the engine is running at approximately full throttle. At full throttle, turn the engine clockwise just enough to run smoothly.
Let the engine idle for a few seconds, then open it fully. Engine RPM should reach full open in seconds. If it fluctuates, turn the idle speed adjusting screw counterclockwise no more than the width of the adjusting screw slot byyou will not achieve uniform acceleration.
Run the engine at wide open throttle for a few seconds, then release the throttle. The engine speed should return to a constant idle speed in about two seconds. If the return to idle speed occurs or is uneven, do not adjust the idle speed adjusting screw beyond the adjusting screw slot width until smooth deceleration is achieved.
Turn the screw clockwise to increase idle and counterclockwise to slow down. If your equipment has a clutch that automatically engages when the engine starts, you should set the idle speed just below the clutch engagement threshold. Otherwise, you will want to set the RPM as low as possible to keep the engine running properly.
