If you forgot the password of your Windows 10 account and cannot log in with another account, this article will certainly help. We will see how to reset your account password in Windows 10 without using third-party tools. We only need bootable media with Windows 10 installed. Follow the instructions below.

If you cannot boot from the DVD media, that is, your PC does not have an optical drive, you can create a bootable USB flash drive.
For more information about creating a bootable USB dongle, see the following articles:

you did! Windows 10 will reboot. Then the login screen will appear, and you will be able to log in with the password you just set!

Incorrectly set passwords can render Windows systems unusable. Unless a valid username and password are specified, Windows units and the data contained in them are essentially prohibited.

Without documentation, access to important Windows systems and data becomes problematic. Despite many considerations of the open source community, the Microsoft NTFS file system providesStable performance and security.

However, using a free open source program, Windows passwords can often be cracked quickly. The standalone NT password and registry editor offers the potential to access locked Windows NT systems. Here's how you can recover lost passwords on your Windows systems.

Standalone NT Password And Registry Editor

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor is a free utility for Linux that, as the name suggests, works offline. The code creates its own loading environment. After burning the ISO image to a CD, you can use the password reset tool for Windows NT, 2000, XP, and Vista accounts. You do not even need to know the username or password of the current account in the system for this to work.

Instead, the utility detects user accounts and allows you to reset the password to the value that you set. The app even resets blocked or disabled user accounts.

Recognize The Dangers

As the name suggests, the utility modifies the Windo registryws. In addition, the application processes the registry in a way that is not fully supported and invalid for Microsoft warranty and support.

In other words, password cracking software is used at your own risk. The standalone NT password and registry editor can no longer easily boot the system. An unauthorized program may also destroy existing data on a Windows system.

This is especially true when File Encryption System (EFS) was used to protect sensitive data. If you use it to change the password of the account that EFS uses to protect files, these files are unlikely to be recovered.

However, unless you choose another option, the software may be exactly what you need to get into a system where passwords have been lost or lost.

Driver Problems

To use the password and the NT registry editor offline, you must insert the CD into the appropriate system and restart it. After starting the utility, the first home screen appears. P Users should pay particular attention to the warning that reads: “There are no guarantees for this software! The author cannot be held liable for damage caused by (improper) use of this software. Software. "Again, the utility should only be used as a last resort.

However, given the use of the last resort, IT professionals are often where they are. If such situations arise and all other means of accessing data (including removing a hard drive from an existing system and attempts to restore data from another system) do not work, the standalone editor may work,

In my experience, the most common problem is the lack of driver support for SATA controllers. The standalone NT password and registry editor is often updated with bug fixes, and driver support is one of the regular improvements the utility receives. However, drivers may need to be loaded manually, as shown in Figure B.

If the program isn’tIncludes active Windows installations, you can try to manually load the hard disk drivers by typing m at the prompt. If you select M, a complete menu of potential pilots will appear (see Figure C).

Password reset software does not always recognize installed hard drives, as shown here. In this case, the utility does not have the necessary drivers for connecting to the RAID installation. For this reason, the software reports that the hard disk partitions in this image do not contain a valid partition table.

Reset Passwords

After fixing the driver problems (in many cases, the automatic detection of programs works without problems), you can enter the system registry and make the necessary changes. If you have the correct drivers, the standalone editor displays the installed hard drives and partitions of resident hard drives. You must select the specific Windows installation that you want to change by entering the partition number in the window that appears (see Figure D).

The standalone editor splits Windows password reset into several steps. In step 1, the necessaryimo specify the installation and the Windows partition.

When the drive and partition are selected, the utility prompts users to specify the path to the registry directory for changes. The default value is WINDOWS \ system32 \ config. In most cases, this standard entry is correct. Just press [Enter] to set the default value.

The following users are prompted to enter the task that they want to complete (see Figure E). The standalone editor offers three options: password reset, RecoveryConsole settings, and exit. To reset passwords, enter 1 when prompted.

Then, the utility will display user information and password status. Specify the user account for which you want to reset the password by entering the user account name and pressing Enter.

As soon as you specify the user, the utility will ask you to enter a new password (see Figure F). In my experience, entering an empty password usually works better. The utility editor also recommends hiding the password. To enter a blank password, enter an asterisk (*) and press the [Enter] key.

After entering (or hiding) a new password, the program asks you to confirm that you want to make changes. Type [Y] and press the [Enter] key to confirm that you want to finish editing.

At this point, it is tempting to reboot the system and try to log in to the user account with a new password (or hidden). There is one last step. You must provide an NT password and an offline registry editor to actually write the changes to the Windows registry.

The process is becoming less intuitive. To complete the process, you must enter the quit command. The program ends by entering an exclamation point [!] And pressing the [Enter] key. Earlier [Q] was used to complete the process. So notice the difference here.

Then the program will ask you to perform step 4, in which the changes will be written to the Windows registry. Type [Y] and press [Enter] to complete the password change. The program writes the change to the Windows SAM file and displays confirmation that the change is completed. At this point, you can restart the Windows system and, if the utility worked properly, log in to the user account using the password (or hidden password) that you specified in step 3.

Linux To The Rescue

As you can see, not everything is lost if you do not have an administrator password for your system. A standalone NT password and registry editor can crack locked systems and regain access to user accounts and data. However, the utility can just as easily destroy data on a Windows system. For this reason, the tool should only be used as a last resort (and only in those systems for which you have full ownership and / or control rights).
