Recently, friends asked me how to open a .mkv file. I found several ways to open .mkv files in XP and Vista. We basically need a third party plugin to open the .mkv file. For reference, the .mkv file is an open standard for video containers.
To open a .mkv file in XP or Vista, follow these steps: -
- Go to the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) project page and download the CCCP package.
- After downloading, install on your computer and restart your computer (I have a problem opening the .mkv file without restarting my computer, so it's better to restart my computer)
- After restarting, you can open the .mkv file by double clicking on it. (If that doesn't work, just drag and drop the file into Windows Media Player and it will play.)
The second way to open the .mkv file is to load the plugin from the Matroska homepage. However, due to the complexity of the download page, I do not recommend it and it is basically the same plugin as the one mentioned above.Anyway, let me share my experience when I first went to your download page. I don't know which plugin to download and test individually at the end. The worst part is that I can open the .mkv file, but the sound is not loud enough, even at my maximum volume. So choose the best solution and enjoy your video 🠙 ‚
