Recently, some of our users reported to us that they encountered http error 503 on Windows 7. The error response code for the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) service is not available. Server error 503 indicates that the server is not ready to process the request. Common causes are servers that have failed due to maintenance or are overloaded.

I am new to setting up a web server in general. I have IIS 8 on Windows 8 and I am trying to create a small local site while developing something. In IIS, I select Add Site, enter a name, point to the location where I have the index.html file (I tried different places, last time in ac: \ inetpub \ wwwroot \ test -folder) and otherwise use all settings by default. However, when I try to go to localhost it says

HTTP Error 503. Service unavailable.

I made sure the pool was running and transferred full control of the destination folder to IIS_IUSRS.

I searched but found nothing that solved my problem and nothing useful in the event log or in the C: \ Windows \ System32 \ LogFiles \ HTTPERR

Can anyone tell me what's going on?
