In this blog post, we're going to find out some of the possible causes that might lead to Windows XP looking for Boot INI, and then we'll provide some possible recovery methods that you can use to try and fix the problem.
- Start a command session (Start, Run, cmd.exe).
Enter the following command (ah stands for "hidden attribute"): dir c: \ boot.ini / ah
- You should see the boat. INI file.
If you have an item in the Start menu that does not work, for example: B. missing version of Windows. To resolve this issue without manually modifying the boot.ini file as described below, click the Check All Boot Paths button on the boot.ini tab.
Select the operating system to run:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Microsoft Windows 2000
Use the up and down arrow keys to move the selection as you see fit.
Press Enter to make your selection.
Press F8 for Windows troubleshooting and advanced startup options.
You cannot use BOOT.INI with these operating systems! Vista and Windows ™ 7 require the new Boot Manager. ("bootmgr") and other related downloads. If you try to boot these systems with BOOT.INI and NTLDR, the process will be done fail. For example, if you install Windows 7 in an unallocated space on a Win XP machine and look into the XP section, you will find During installation, backups of the original boot sects were madeora (BOOSECT.BAK) and boot.ini files (Boot.BAK), and these lines have been added to the new boot.ini file:
; Warning: Boot.ini is used by Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
; Warning. Use BCDEDIT.exe to change Windows Vista startup options.
By A Recovery Installation (also Called "in-place Update") Of Windows XP
This is the proverbial "hammer to break the stomach" approach. If you are downloading a duplicate with a newer version of Windows such as Vista / 7/8, you also need to repair the new BCD boot. Then run it because every time you install from XP to Vista / 7/8, a new Bootmgr / BCD is loaded into XP. NTLDR cannot load later versions in Windows XP.
