With FAC, each character is sent two or three times, and the receiver checks for instances of each character. It will only be accepted if compliance is met in both cases. If a match is made for an instance, a character corresponding to the protocol is accepted. If no characters match the protocol, the character is discarded and an underscore or space is displayed instead.

Forward Error Correction (FEC) code is a data code used in the FEC system to transmit data. Based on FEC, the sender adds their messages using a predefined algorithm. The recipient can identify and correct errors without asking the sender for additional information.


FEC codes can generate bit error rate signals that are used as feedback to fine-tune analog receive electronics. The maximum number of missing bits that can be corrected is determined byFEC code structure. Two important categories of FEC codes are convolutional codes and block codes. Block codes operate with fixed-size bit packets in which partial code blocks are decoded along the block length in polynomial time. A widely used block code is Reed-Solomon coding. Convolutional codes process streams of any length and are decoded using the Viterbi algorithm. An important characteristic of a convolutional code is that each bit coding is influenced by the previous bits.
