Fix BSoD (Blue Screen of Death) Errors on Windows 7

This guide teaches you how to fix blue screen (or BSoD) errors in Windows 7.

If you receive a blue screen error message, but Windows 7 restarts immediately and you cannot read the error text, follow these instructions to disable the Auto-restart option:

  1. Right-click My Computer.
  2. Accessing Properties
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. In the Startup and Recovery section, click the Settings button.
  5. Make sure Auto Restart is disabled under System Errors.
  6. Click OK.

If you are unable to start Windows, try starting it in Safe Mode following the instructions above and restart your computer. Follow these steps to start Windows 7 in Safe Mode:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Press F8 until the Windows logo appears
  3. Use k Click the arrows and select "Safe Mode" from the "Start" menu.
  4. Press Enter

General Fixes

To fix Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) errors in Windows 7, you can try one of the following tips:

Tip 1. System Restore

Follow the instructions in the Windows 7 Recovery Guide to run System Restore for Windows 7.

Tip 2. Install updates

As with Windows Vista, installing the latest updates from Microsoft can fix errors that may occur on your Windows 7.

If Windows Update does not allow you to install updates yourself, follow these steps to manually install updates:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Enter "Refresh"
  3. in the search box
  4. Select Windows Update from the list of results.
  5. Click "Check for Updates" on the left.
  6. Check for Pending Updates
  7. Click Install Updates.

Tip 3. Install the latest drivers

Make sure your system has the latest device drivers. AboutContact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver.

Many blue screen errors can be caused by an incompatible device driver. You can try uninstalling recently installed device drivers and restarting your computer.

Tip 4: Check your hard drive for errors

Windows 7 has several utilities that you can use to identify and fix specific errors. You can use these utilities to check for hard drive or storage problems.

Check for hard drive problems:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Computer access
  3. Right click on the main drive where Windows 7 is installed and select Properties.

  6. Click Start.

  1. Click Start.

  3. Enter "repository" in the search box.

If you have an original installation or recovery disc:

  1. Insert an installation or recovery disc.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Press any key to boot from the hard drive.
  4. Select your language and keyboard layout (if available), then click Next.
  5. Click Repair Your Computer if you are using a Windows 7 installation disc
  6. On the System Recovery Options screen, click Startup Repair е ".


Blue screen error code 0x000000ED is also called UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.

In situations where the UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error is caused by incorrect or outdated Windows partition information in the boot configuration files (BOOT.INI or BCD) for NTLDR or BootMGR, Easy Recovery Essentials can usually restore the configuration. boot with the correct options and settings so that Windows can start correctly:

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) error code "0x0000007B" is also known as "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" and can be caused by data corruption on your hard drive.

To fix this error, perform one of the following fixes.

Fix # 1: Hard Drive Cable

Make sure all hard drive cables are securely connected.

Fix # 2: Run chkdsk / f / r

The chkdsk tool comes with Windows and can be used to check (and sometimes repair) your disks for file system corruption.

  1. Insert the Windows installation DVD.
  2. Turn on your computer.
  3. Press any key when you see: “Press any key to load From CD or DVD ... "
  4. Click Repair Your Computer.
  5. Select your operating system and click Next.
  6. Select Command Prompt.
  7. After starting Command Prompt, enter the following command:

     chkdsk / f / r 
  8. Press Enter

Fix # 3: Repair BCD

BCD stands for Boot Configuration Data and contains Windows Boot Configuration Settings. To restore boot configuration data, you must use the Bootrec.exe tool.

You can access the Bootrec.exe utility from the Windows 7 installation disc:

If you do not have an installation disc, use Easy Recovery Essentials to recover the BCD.

  1. Insert the installation disc and boot from it
  2. Press any key to boot from the hard drive.
  3. Select "Repair your computer".
  4. Select your operating system from the list and click Next.
  5. Select Command Prompt.
  6. Enter this command:

     bootrec / Rebuildbcd 
  7. Press Enter
